First Backpacking Trip

Becca and I traveled to Buena Vista, CO Friday night after work. We stayed the night at a nice campground, and in the morning we set out on our first real backpacking trip. It was up the North Cottonwood Creek, we were heading for Browns Pass and the Texas Creek wilderness, but we didnt make it that far. We had to park about 4 miles down the road from the actual trail-head because our little car couldn’t make it up the rough terrain. That stretch along the road was long, hot, and dusty. After a full day of hiking up, sometimes through knee deep snow, we set up camp overlooking Lake Kroenke at about 11,600 feet. I pitched the tent, then I quickly collapsed from a wonderful combination of dehydration and altitude sickness. I recovered during the night, but I was pretty miserable for a few hours there. The trip down the next day was much better at the beginning, but our legs became very sore in the last few miles. We took a quite a few pictures, and we have some video. You can view the pictures here. I should have the compiled video posted soon.
