so close

so close and yet so utterly wrong

I thought I would be able to write something witty and entertaining tonight. I was wrong.

The Passion of the Christ is not just a film, it doesnt follow any of the format of a traditional film. Even worse its a film that people leave thinking that they never want to see it again. This is a peice of art that conveys an image, and idea, so vividly that it has the power to bring a person to their knees emotionally as well as physically.

Right now I actually feel sick to my stomach after seeing this movie. There was no person who left that theater tonight with anything on their minds except for the very real sacrafice of Jesus.

I cannot talk tonight, I cannot type tonight, my mind needs to work its way through this. I hope all see this movie.

Im sitting here at work again discussing life, the universe, and everything once again.

This afternoon I went buddy bowling for the house. This is a great program where we get a chance to go bowling with a group of mentally handycapped people. Each person gets their own buddy to bowl with once a week. My buddy Chad is actually quite good at bowling, and beat me soundly in the first round. The second round was s different story, but I cant really feel much pride for beating my buddy at bowling, especially when there was another buddy in a wheel chair who completely beat both of us at our lane.

This evening I work untill 8, and consists of cleaning more virii off student computers and obtaining the obligatory big pop from the kwik stop. Though, I am not actually getting a big pop anymore, I have been getting lemonade lately. Two weeks ago I gave up pop. Why? Because I felt like beginning to eat healthier, and loosing a couple pounds wont kill me. So, sadly I have not had any Mountain Dew in a long time, I am expecting Pepsi to declare bankruptcy soon from the revenue they are losing.

Tonight I will see The Passion. And I expect I will be up for quite a while afterwords. Hopefully you will get one more post before I go to sleep.

Step by step 3rd Entry

My last two classes of the day went fairly well, Newsriting was interesting and blessedly quick as well. I am always surprise at how much longer my Marketing class feels than my newswriting class. Right after Newswriting I had Natural Disasters with Steel Becker. I kid you not, that is his real name. In this class I had a test which I decided not to study for, I hope that it proves to be the wise choice, and I feel fairly confident I did well on that test. You have to love a test that is all well written multiple choice and True/False questions. I think that that test was on of the best written tests I have ever taken, and I finished it in 15 minutes.

On the walk back to my room, I passed through the center of campus by the fountain, which I mention in my first post today(scroll down if you havent already read it). The sign that our crusade group had put up for students to write on about pornography was back up! I do not yet know what precipitated the re-erection of our free speech wall, but I will certainly inform you all when I find out. Our sidewalk advertisements were still in place as well, so I assume there were no serious repercussions from the college administration.

Immediately after that I stopped in at work and talked to my boss old man Asay and found out about a good chance to get some more hours at work for an extra project, sounds like a good idea to my empty pocketbook. Ahhh overcommittment of time is a great thing.

Whenever I am in my room I am usually listening to some music through iTunes. My mp3 collection is a little insane, I am up to 2325 songs, 6.1 Days, 9.07 GB of music. That is a lot, I could set the library to random and listen to music for 6 days without hearing the same song twice. Excepting that I probably have several duplicate copies of the same song in there. The digital music revolution is a great thing.

Im actually surprised by how much I have been able to write for each post today, and I hope that I am not boring all of you to death.

second minute - 2nd Post

One class down, 2 more to go. I was supposed to have a design assignment done for Typeography 1 today, but it doesnt really matter because my team isnt using my design for our final project anyways. I seriously lack motivation for the majority of classes I take in the art department. If all my classes in this department could be like Computers and Design was, then I would be a happy man. So I spent 2 hours surfing the web and looking at USB Card Reader Hard Drive combos for Mike. We are eventually going to be using an old fashioned metal print press for this class, watching another group use this press really makes me appreciate computers and laser-jet printers. I am a geek, I embrace new technologies immediately and scorn methods and objects that seem old fashioned to me, like pens and paper. It probably doesnt help matters that this class is around priority level 16 for me. Up next, a quick lunch and newswriting class.

The day that was 1st Entry

This day, like most others, will be very busy for me. In fact my schedule is so busy that I have decided to commit myself to updating this blog several times today. Nigh unto infinity I shall post my thoughts about what has traspired within my life today. Expect many platitudinous remarks from myself regarding the events that are so important to myself. Considering that I usually only update my blog once a week, I think that this could be a unique experience for me. I doubt that this will become a common occurance for this site, but you never know. The powers of a blog for stress relief are great.

Already this morning I was up before the both the sun and God Himself. Waking up at 6:20 to be at the Union at 7:00 is never fun. Many people from various campus ministries met at the Union this morning with the intent of going across the campus to chalk chalkboards with an advertisent for a seminar being held by a number of campus organizations, but started by most of the campus ministries. This seminar is about pornography and is called The Power of Porn. Monday and Tuesday we had a large triangular wall made of 3 x 8 peices of plywood near the center of campus painted white and with markers atached. This was supposed to be a free speech wall for students to express their opinions about pornography. Of course it quickly became an opportunity for immature comments and illustrations, which proved the point of why the Power of Porn event need to be held. Last night we were forced to take the sign down by the college administration for a number of reasons. Apperantly some members of the beuracracy were offended by having the truth about our student body revealed in the center of campus, and there were some other problems with violation of official rules about campus signage, which we had already cleared with the people directly responsible.

So this morning we were also told that we should not chalk the chalkboards in the classrooms on campus, or the professors would get angry. All we were allowed to do was use sidewalk chalk to advertise on the sidewalks right by the Union. We understood this to mean we could write with chalk around the fountain near the union also, since the winning candidate for Student Body president had done the exact same thing the week before. Right before we finished writing Power of Porn in 3 foot letters all around the fountain we were informed by our Campus Crusade director that we didnt technically have permission to chalk the sidewalks near the fountain. Whoops. I do not yet know what happened with that, I hope the administration just decides to let it go, otherwise we could be the first Christian ministry kicked off campus for using the word Porn to much.

After the chalking incident I went back to my room and literally took a 5 minute nap before going to work. I am at work right this moment. I had to go across campus to work on a students computer this morning and was a few inches from being run over while crossing a street.

This day could prove to be very interesting. Stick with me, I will do my best to relate all the exciting happenings for the day.

greeaat!

I got this link from PvP but I couldnt stop laughing for quite a while after seeing this commercial. This commercial never actually aired, it was just made to show off the talents of this place. Do yourself a favor and watch this thing and then watch the rest of the commercials on the site too, all of them are really funny. Apperantly you can feel great too, just by eating Nutrigrain bars.

I hope this movie gets spread around a bunch and becomes the next big meme.

heres my excuse

I know that many wished to listen to my live radio show last thursday night. I also know that noone was able to listen in last thursday night unless they did it the old fashioned way, with a radio. The reasons for this are not fully known, but something went wrong with the server after we left the room it was in. I expected to be able to get the server back up and running from the studio computer. Unfortunately this was not the case, restrictions in effect on that computer prevented me from carrying out any remote administration. This issue should be resolved for this weeks show. I hope you all give it another shot this week.

Money is an interesting concept. Though my grade in economics class was far from wonderful I did in fact take economics. I thought I had learned about finances and the manageing of them, yet sometimes it takes a hard slap in the face by reality to make you realize the fluidic nature of money. Like so much skim milk, funds slip through my fingers and dribble down the drain of pointless purchases. Now I have to deal with my financial incompetence, and it isnt pretty.

My budget for the week barely has enough room to allow me to attend the opening night of The Passion of the Christ. And I cannot wait to see this movie, my respect for Mel Gibson as an actor was once based upon movies like Braveheart, The Patriot, Signs, and yes, even Mad Max. Now I have a whole new level of respect for his own passion and commitment to what he believes in. Whether or not you agree with what he has done or what this movie tells, you must recognize the power of the commitment to his beliefs. Through all the TV appearances and interviews that I have seen with Mel Gibson I have been thoroughly impressed by his poise and strength of character when under fire from those who seek to halt his movie in its tracks.

This movie is going to be big, very big, I have heard many people around campus talking about it and discussing how soon they will be able to go see it. I personally am going with a group of over 30 people Wednesday night. I hope that many people get a chance to go watch this film, I expect a very powerful film.

P.S. Always preview before publishing a blog entry, that way you can catch obvious mistakes such as misspellings in the title. I dunno, Im tarded.

Cluegle

Where have I been, and where am I going. Good questions, Im glad you asked. I have been all around the region with my radio show. Where am I going? Worldwide Baby!!!

That is correct, not only did I stream last weeks radio show over the net from dongle, but word spread quickly and several friends from far away tuned in for the show. I think I am the first DJ at my campus radio station to get a request from Orange City, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. For those of you not in the know, I have a show from 10 PM to 1 AM every Thursday night. I like to have guests come in and play some guitar or just hang out usually. I try not to talk too much, but you never know when I might get caught up on some editorial tangent between songs. If you are by a computer thursday evenings feel free to listen.

V-Day weekend was very fun for me and my favorite girl, Becca. Not victory day, Valentines Day. Or, as my roomate likes to call it, Singles Awareness Day.

Memes are everywhere. It is mildly interesting to watch the rise and fall in popularity of certain products. Disturbing and annoying memes like reality TV are very large scale and quite obvious. Yet, there are fads which are just as pervasive in society but do not get as much attention. For instance, the Nalgene water bottle has attained an ubiquitous level of popularity in our society, or at least the society that I am exposed to. I see many of my peers with these water bottles and I myself have one. The Nalgene bottle has become as much of a symbol of personal identity as Fossil watches and Oakley sunglasses for a portion of this generation. I first heard about these water bottles from Becca, and she gave me a purplish/blueish one as a christmas gift 2 years ago. Before that I had never heard of them, then all of a sudden, last summer everyone had one. The popularity of this product grew swiftly and quietly. The craziest part about the entire phenomenon is that the product is so dirt simple. A water bottle that is nearly indestructible and made from translucent colored plastic. The simplicity of this product is likely the reason for its wide based popularity.

Speaking of the strengths of simplicity, all of you who have any uncertainty of what the internet is, or more specifically what it is not, should read this article. I found it very enlightening for the way it puts into words a concept that is continually abstracted by all who claim the right to expound upon it.

Live Radio

All you out there who want to listen to me live on the radio are now in luck. Listen Live to me at 10:00 PM Central time every thursday night. The stream is for Windows Media Player 9 for now. An mp3 stream should be available for upcoming weeks. I hope you can tolerate some of my show, in all its staticy glory.

DTOTD #1

Deep thought of the day, Issue #1. This is not a complete post, this is simply something that struck me before going to bed a few minutes ago.

I place more of my faith in myself than I do in God, and my faith in myself is on shakier ground every day.

Joke Time

Inscribed upon the wall of the mens bathroom in the Fine Arts Building

Why do Seagulls fly over the sea?
Because if the flew over the bay they would be called Baygulls.

Another fine specimen of jokeness

Whats brown and sticky?
A stick.

And yet more stick related humor

What do you call a boomerang that doesnt work?
A stick.

I know this isnt much of a post, but I am technically really busy right now and shouldnt even be taking the time to write anything for my site. Yet I am. I hope you are all happy about being responsible for my procrastinating tendancies. Sheesh, my rants are getting consistenty less ranty. I know that ranty isnt a word, and you know that ranty isnt a word, but they dont realize that!

Many jobs are not neccesarily good. Money is good, being busy is OK, but being busy and then attempting to stack more jobs on top of that is not a good course to persue. Just my own two cents. No wait, you cant have those, give me my two cents back! I really need that money for tuition.

My words of wisdom for the day, If you are going to be several minutes late to anything, be consistent and make sure you are late to everything, that way people are not surprised.

LAN Butt

Its a good thing these chairs have cushions. Were hitting hour number 8 of day 2 on the 1st annual Wintereenmas LAN Party. Since many of my friends are woefully ignorant of the gamer subculture here is a definition of what a LAN party is. Right now we are at 6 people, not very big but some people leave, others join as we progress. The two games we have been playing are Counter Strike and Soldier of Fortune 2. There is nothing quite like the fast paced action of a first person shooter to take up a few days of your life. Wish me luck, I dont think I am going to sleep between saturday and sunday. Enough blogging, time for more gaming.

after two

Its after 2 in the morning, and I have just rolled in from the cold blowing snow. I was busy tonight at the radio station, my show went pretty well especially since I had a live performer. My good friend and future fraternity brother Brock plays guitar and sings quite well so I had him come into the studio in order to serenade us all. After that Brock, myself, and his guitar playing posse all went to chill at Dalight Donuts. There is something about donuts in the early hours that really hits the spot.

Today was a snow day of sorts, the university refused to cancel classes yesterday so I think all the students rebelled and decided to take today off from class. The campus really was empty today, and I think attendance was down all around. I of course went to some of my classes. After I took a nice long nap anyways. The campus crusade meeting tonight was pretty hectic, all of this stress almost makes me wish I was back in the live television production business again. Perhaps this summer I will experience more of that. I suppose that working at a TV station is a possibility for an internship again. Right now I am really trying to persue two different companies that are fairly close by. SonBurst, and ArchRival both of which would offer me some sweet experience in the field that I am looking at for a career. I may also apply for internships at some of the larger TV stations in the region.

I am very tired right now and I am having difficulty typing so I think I should go to sleep. It is very unlikely that classes will be cancelled for Friday.

dynamics

As with many things, my blog undergoes a continuous change in intensity. One time I will post some quasi-deep metaphysical exploration of the human condition, and then I will throw out a short blurb that makes no sense has no point. Its all about the highs and the lows, the peaks and the valleys, the apex and the chasm. Plotted graphically my rants would be very similar to the graph of my bank balance. Oh, how I do enjoy being an impoverished college student.

You can tell that the semester is off to a great start when I am already deluged by little tasks and assignments for just about every class and each of the many organizations that I have responsibilities for. The only reason my to-do list doesnt grow much longer is because I am too busy to take the time to put my tasks on the list. It probably doesnt help that I spend more time engrossed in web-design for something that is not a pressing concern and is not even really my responsibility. Some day the things that I enjoy doing the most will be the things I get payed to do. I hope.

I find it interesting examining the exact function of a blog in my life. I think that web journaling serves a unique role in many peoples lives. If you blog regularly you will discover that it is a great way to blow off steam about something that is stressing you out. It is also a great way to develop thoughts that may be bouncing around in your mind. So, blogs are just like a diary? No, they also serve as a great personal communications tool one step removed from email. Let me outline the communications hierarchy as I see it.

1. Real Life Person to Person - the closest and most direct form of communication
2. Phone Call - still close and extrememely convenient
3. Instant Messaging (IM) - a little disconnected yet still efficient
4. e-mail - ideal for business and organizational communication
5. blog - open to the public yet still contains elements of personal communiation
6. Annual Christmas Card - no personal interaction and little risk of unwanted personal communication from others

Switchin tracks a little I must tell you my interest in getting a small USB flash drive, also called a jump drive. I was looking around at them and spotted the wrist watch USB drive. These little gadgets are awesome, I need a new casual watch too so it seems like a good fit. Then I started thinking of what else USB flash memory drives could be hidden in. Shoes? Oh yes my friend, I just may decide to go ahead and make my own USB memory shoes. Perhaps even with a spring loaded reel for the USB cable so you dont have to take the shoes off to plug them in. If you dont feel like browsing the web for USB shoes right now you could just go and check out the Spam Fan Club. I assure you it is fun for all, and I might suggest that you download the screensave there, apprantly its guaranteed to tikle you any of several shades of pink.
